3 Things Not To Do When Giving Romantic Gifts to Your Man

Giving a romantic gift to a man can be like handing him a bag full of new socks.  He’ll smile and accept it 99% of the time, but he won’t actually be that happy about it.  Men are generally not that cryptic, but when it comes to our feelings we can be reserved and closed off … to say the least.  Even, myself, as a fairly sensitve guy can feel the desire to just shut down and not connect with other people on an emotional level.  This is what makes giving romantic gifts to men so difficult.

But there are ways to get around it.  One of the ways to increase your chances of success is to know what you should avoid, which of course helps you know better what you should be doing in terms of romantic gifts.

Firstly, it is important to avoid the temptation to replace something that he already has.  I’ve heard of a lot of guys getting new cell phones or new shirts, etc. on Valentines, and things like that just don’t cut it (unless he doesn’t have a cell phone already).  You see romance is not about being practical.  It should never be completely practical even for a man.

Secondly, you don’t want to come off seeming like his mother.  This means that you are not trying to ‘take care’ of him through your romantic expressions.  In a way this may sound obvious, but a lot of people make romance synonymous with care taking, at certain times.  In a man’s mind these things are of course very separate.  So ensure that your romantic gifts are not mere expressions of taking care of him.

Thirdly, don’t get too cheesy.  Now, fortunately Valentine’s Day gives you a lot more room to be cheesy than other occasions, but this does not mean that you can be as cheesy as you want.  The key is to be sentimental.  Men easily attach value to things.  For example I have a favorite screwdriver, (computer) mouse, and pen.  It’s weird when you think about it, but it does tell us something about the male mind.  For romantic gift giving this is revolutionary as it reminds us of how men are hardwired to make things sentimental.  That’s perhaps the most important realization for giving a romantic gift to your man.

Here’s an article that will give you more help with how to add value to your romantic gifts for him.

I hope that helps you out.  All the best.
