Do you want to create a posting on Craigslist.org? Regardless of whether you are looking to make extra money by selling or if you want to advertise your services for hire, there are some things that you just shouldn’t do. If you want to generate interest or excitement about what you have to offer, continue reading on for a few helpful tips.
DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. If you are relatively new to the internet, you might not know that this is considered yelling. In fact, you may likely receive more hate mail than interest. Avid internet users absolutely despise people who write their entire Craigslist ads in capital letters. Not only is considered yelling, but an entire paragraph or two in capital letters is basically impossible to read.
Do not hit that submit button until you have proofread your listing. Yes, grammar isn’t very important when trying to make $ 5 off a used DVD, but you might actually be surprised. Many sellers like to avoid Craigslist sellers who can’t seem to put a sentence together. Don’t be that person. Proofread your Craigslist ad to first make sure it actually makes sense. Then, focus on the format. Long sentences and paragraphs are not recommended. Keep it short and simple and use bullet points to outline particular features or anything of important interest. Craigslist buyers and Craigslist service needers do not need or want to spend 10 minutes reading what appears to be a book. If yours is anything but short and sweet, don’t expect much interest to be generated.
Do not give your entire life story or even just a couple sentences of it. No one cares that you are selling a new baby crib because your cute little son outgrew his and is now in his “big boy racing bed.” As cute as it is, people just don’t care. In fact, if you write your life story or the history of an item you are selling on Craigslist, some buyers may not even bothering contacting you. They want to find a good deal, exchange cash for item and then be on their way. They are likely thinking “this seller is crazy; if they share this much information online, what are they going to be like in person?”
Do not leave interested readers without a good way to contact you. This is very important if you are offering your services for pay on Craigslist. Yes, Craigslist will provide you with a method of viewing all interested replies, but you likely won’t have any. Interest buyers or service seekers don’t like to spend more than a second longer than they need to on Craigslist. Once again, whether you are selling a product or a service, have your phone number outlined in plain sight. A phone number is best, but if you are one of those people who has a fear of talking to strangers or just don’t want your contact information online, please post your email address (even if you create a free one just for the purpose of using Craigslist).
